"Where I'm From"

I am from the grill.

I am from the charcoal, the flames.

From the concrete patio and smoke in the lungs.

I am from carne asada, the enchiladas.

I am from the fresh pizza, cheesecake

I am from barbecues and fortitude.

I am from militarism.

I am from the desire to triumph.

I am from Sunday night football
From the pass in the air, ready to be received by college.

I am from the Jets, the mountains.

From the drives, the ambition.

I am from the Springs and mindfulness.

I am from the golden Fields.

I am from lanterns, enlightenment

I am from tents, the trees.

From the trail path, the drive

I am from Cripple Creek

I am from what makes me.

The poem "Where I'm From" is written about my experiences growing up such as camping in Colorado from my family's barbecues
